Member Monday: The Earth Is Blue As An Orange (Ukrainian War Documentary)

April 11, 2022 @ 7:30 pm

All are welcome, but Circle Cinema Members receive a few extra perks this Monday, April 11th with a special Happy Hour (beginning at 5:30pm with bar service and light bites) and film screening of the new Ukranian documentary THE EARTH IS BLUE AS AN ORANGE at 7:30pm. General Admission for the film is $5 and Members are FREE.
A post-film conversation will be led by Benjamin Peters, the Hazel Rogers Associate Professor and Chair of Media Studies at the University of Tulsa.
About the film: Winner – World Documentary Award at Sundance Film Festival. Exquisitely shot and bold in its metastorytelling approach, director Iryna Tsilyk’s documentary follows single mother Anna and her four children as they document their lives under siege in Ukraine. Every member of the family has a passion for cinema, motivating them to shoot a film inspired by their own life during a time of war.
About Benjamin Peters: His teachings at TU also serves the School of Cyber Studies and Russian studies. He is author of How Not to Network a Nation: the Uneasy History of the Soviet Internet (MIT Press, 2016) and is working on book projects on Soviet artificial intelligence and Imagining Russian hackers, where research and travels has taken him and his family to live in Ukraine for over a year and Russia for over two.
