Volunteer opportunities for eight projects are available as part of Kendall Whittier Community Day.
KW Community Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 9 and is a partnership with Tulsa Changemakers and the University of Tulsa Service Day.
“The goal of KW Community Day is to provide volunteer support to businesses and organizations for projects that they otherwise wouldn’t have extra time or hands for,” said Sydney Alison, KWMS community engagement coordinator.
Projects vary in type and time of day. Most volunteer shifts are two hours long, but volunteers are welcome to sign up for multiple shifts, depending on interest, need and availability. Volunteers can learn more about the projects or sign up here.
A few of the projects are indoors but the majority are outdoors. Two projects are ideal for families or volunteers of any age, while others are specifically for 15+ or older.
“KW Community Day is perfect for groups that want to do a project together or individuals just looking for a way to give back to their community or support local businesses,” Alison said. “We encourage you to sign up for your slot early as some volunteer opportunities may fill up quickly.”
Projects include painting outdoor benches at San Miguel Middle School, assisting building and installing a Little Free Library, weeding flower beds and creating chalk art at Sequoyah Elementary, trash cleanup and window washing, assisting at the Tulsa Farmers’ Market and even some office filing.
Kendall Whittier Main Street is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, so KW Community Day is a great option for community service hours.
“Whether you’re looking to earn volunteer hours or you just want something fun to do on a beautiful April Saturday, this is a great opportunity to show some love to local businesses and organizations who are constantly giving back to the community,” Alison said.
Kendall Whittier Main Street is a nonprofit organization that inspires the ongoing revitalization and growth of a historic and cultural neighborhood in Tulsa, striving to transform it back to a thriving, walkable commercial district. It is a Certified Cultural District and a 2020 Great American Main Street Award recipient.
