Kendall Whittier Main Street announces a new grant opportunity available to business and property owners within the KWMS boundaries.
The Relief and Capital Improvement Grant launched in late December and offers between $1,000 and $10,000 reimbursement funding with no match required. The grant has two parts – crisis and emergency relief and planned capital improvement projects.
Crisis and Emergency Relief is to support businesses when the worst happens, such as a fire or a break-in that caused a significant property loss or damage. Applications can be submitted anytime and notification will usually be made within one week of submission. Projects must be completed within 30 days of award notification.
On the other hand, the Capital Improvement side is for projects that can take the business or property to the next level, whether it’s purchasing an important piece of equipment or involves a business expansion. For capital improvement projects, there are three deadlines – January 15, April 15 and July 15. Notification will be made no later than the end of those months, and projects must all be completed by August 15 of this year.
“Over the last two years, we’ve noticed an increase in the need for both of these types of grants as businesses are still feeling effects of COVID-19 or have needed to transform part of their business model to adapt in a post-pandemic world,” said Jessica Jackson Seay, executive director of Kendall Whittier Main Street.
All decisions and award amounts are made according to the greatest needs and largest impact with the overall goal of maximizing KWMS’s investment. Applicants should provide as much detail as possible to assist the task force in its decision.
Funding is limited. Grants will only be administered as long as funding is available.
The funds to make the RCI Grant available come from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Community Grant through the city of Tulsa. The grant is designed to provide relief following the COVID-19 pandemic, which disproportionally impacted some of Tulsa’s most vulnerable residents.
“We are thankful to receive the funding to allow us to provide grants to our small business owners and Kendall Whittier property owners,” Jackson Seay said. “This grant can really make an impact to businesses in the district!”

Kendall Whittier Main Street is a nonprofit organization that supports businesses and property owners in Kendall Whittier, hosts events to bring people to the district and works closely with local and state liaisons for improvements. Kendall Whittier is a certified cultural district by the Oklahoma Arts Council.
