Ed Sharrer
Volunteer, committee member, former staff

Ed Sharrer was once nicknamed the “Mayor of Kendall Whittier,” and as far as we are concerned that title is still well deserved.

Ed’s passion for Kendall Whittier began nearly a decade ago when he took over the role as Executive Director of Kendall Whittier Main Street in 2013.

In his six years at the helm, Whittier Square’s occupancy grew from 36 percent to 100 percent and several staple events brought thousands of people to the district every year.

Ed applied for Kendall Whittier to be named a Great American Main Street Award winner in 2019 and the district was named the “One to Watch.” KWMS went on to claim the GAMSA title the following year

Even after a career change in 2019, Ed never strayed far from his beloved district. He has been an active member on the Activations and Promotions Committee, a regular event volunteer and continues to be a patron of Kendall Whittier businesses any chance he gets.

“Ed is a wealth of knowledge and someone I still go to for advice often,” said Jessica Jackson Seay, executive director of KWMS. “If I’m ever wondering what to do about something, I just consider ‘what would Ed do?’ and I usually have my answer.”

Staff Says: “How do I even begin to describe Ed’s impact on Kendall Whittier Main Street? Hands down Kendall Whittier Main Street would not be where it was – would not a Great American Main Street – without Ed’s influence and dedication, two things that frankly haven’t diminished even though he hasn’t been on payroll in three and a half years.”   – Jessica Jackson Seay, executive director.

Ed Says: “Kendall Whittier is my favorite district in Tulsa! So many people have invested their time into the neighborhood for decades to make it the place it is today. I want to see it continue to thrive.” – Ed Sharrer

Fun Fact About Ed: In a movie about his life, he’d want Chris Pratt to play him. “But the chubby Parks and Rec version, not the hunky, leading man version,” he explained.

Every month in 2022, Kendall Whittier Main Street will be announcing a Volunteer Spotlight. This may be an individual who has gone above and beyond on a project for Kendall Whittier Main Street that month, or it may be a long-time volunteer who deserves recognition for years of service.
