Back by popular demand, Kendall Whittier After Five’s Salsa Night is guaranteed to sizzle on Sept. 9 from 6-9 p.m.

Featuring a 16-foot by 16-foot dance floor from ABCO Party Rentals, the night kicks off with free salsa dancing lessons from Baila Tulsa at 6 p.m. This is an opportunity for dancers of any skill level to learn some fun moves to better enjoy the rest of the night.

Following the free lessons, Latin Mojo will take the stage, performing salsa music from 7-9 p.m., giving attendees an opportunity to practice their newfound skills.

“Salsa Night is always such a fun night in Kendall Whittier,” said Jessica Jackson Seay, executive director of Kendall Whittier Main Street. “The district just comes alive with salsa music, dancing and community! It’s one of my most favorite things we do all year.”

Due to rising numbers of COVID-19 cases, Kendall Whittier Main Street will have complimentary masks for anyone wishing to wear a mask when dancing with someone outside their household.

A small Kids Zone encourages young attendees. There will be coloring sheets, yard bowling, hula hoops and chalk art.

On the second Thursday of every month for After Five, volunteers lay 2,400 square feet of astroturf, creating a “pop up park” in the Whittier Square parking lot at the corner of Admiral and Lewis. The event is free and open to the public.

The pop up park provides a place for attendees to sit and enjoy the entertainment. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets but some chairs will be provided.

Renaissance Brewery will be selling beer selections at the event. Additionally, Pollos Asados al Carbon, a food truck behind She Brews Coffee House, will be open. Food and alcohol are the only things at After Five that cost money.

A special “Friends” VIP access tent will be on site for Friends of Kendall Whittier, with complementary beverages available.

There is only one more event in the After Five series this year include: TU Night on October 14.

After Five is made possible through a sponsorship by Fowler Automotive and Williams. ABCO Rentals donated the dance floor.
