Small Business Saturday is coming up on Nov. 27, and Kendall Whittier has you covered on all of your holiday shopping needs!
As a Neighborhood Champion for Small Business Saturday, KWMS has decided to do a giveaway! On Nov. 27, take photos of your receipts from wherever you shop in Kendall Whittier and submit them via text to (918)-633-1934 or emailing them to sydney@visitkendallwhittier.com. One receipt = one entry. Every $10 spent counts toward additional entries to win the grand prize, a gift basket filled with lots of Kendall Whittier goodies! We will be accepting entries through the end of Cyber Monday, so you can shop KW from the comfort of your couch.
“We might not realize it in the moment, but every time we buy clothing from a local boutique or a sandwich from our favorite local deli, we are shopping small and making a huge difference in our community,” says Sydney Alison, KWMS Community Engagement Coordinator.
Whittier Square was Tulsa’s first suburban shopping district. Along the original alignment of Route 66, businesses popped up in the late 1920s and the neighborhood thrived for decades. However, the future of Whittier Square was inexorably altered when an 8-lane interstate highway bisected the neighborhood in 1967. The neighborhood went into a freefall that lasted more than four decades.
Now, 11 years after Kendall Whittier Main Street came onto the scene, 49 small businesses have opened and over $140 million has been reinvested back into the community.
Small businesses are at the core of every thriving neighborhood, which is why – in the midst of the recession in 2010 — American Express created Small Business Saturday to encourage people to shop small during the holiday season.
Several KW businesses are celebrating Small Business Saturday with pop-up markets featuring dozens of other local makers. From 12-5 p.m., Heirloom Rustic Ales will host over 20 vendors ranging from jewelry and ceramics to stationary and clothing. While you’re there, be sure to grab some wood fired pizza from Dante’s and smoky BBQ from KillerWail. Marshall Brewing Company is hosting a special edition of their weekly maker’s market featuring Kayla Adams Art and Smooth Hound Collective from 12-10 p.m.. Flash Flood Print Studios is hosting their monthly Flash Flood and Friends pop-up shop as well (be one of the first to grab a free loaded Shop Small tote here or at Heirloom)!
You can also find deals and discounts near you by browsing the Shop Small Map.
