The holidays are a time for joy and cheer, but sometimes finding that perfect gift for loved ones comes with a bit of a challenge. Have no fear! Kendall Whittier is here.

In addition to great shopping, dining and drinking, three opportunities to shop with local makers are coming up on Saturday – A Holiday Maker’s at The Studio; the 3rd annual Holiday Market at Cabin Boys Brewery; and an open house at Anthousai, a brand new business to Kendall Whittier.

Artists, makers and locally-owned businesses have been hit hard this year with closures and reduced shopping opportunities.

“This year all small businesses have taken a hit, including local makers,” said Lisa McIlory, co-owner of Cabin Boys Brewery. “This year, more than ever, it’s important for us to shop local so that these businesses can survive this economic crisis and continue to thrive in the future.”

Jess Karin Trout, co-owner of The Studio, agrees and has been working to create an environment for Tulsa makers to thrive.

“This is your opportunity to show some care and support for some of the wonderful local businesses and makers we have right here in our city,” said Jess Karin Trout, co-owner of The Studio.

Masks will be required at each of the events and socially-distancing will encouraged with limits on the number of people inside at any given time. Extra cleaning before, during and after will help ensure the safety of guests, vendors and employees.

Anthousai Open House

Anthousai, 2411 E. Admiral Blvd., is a fine art floral design studio. They share the space with Telluria, which specializes in artful tablescape styling. Showing off the studio for the first time, there will be an Open House on Friday, Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then again the following weekend for the same times.

“We’ve curated really beautiful goods from women-owned/America made businesses,” said Katie Allen, co-owner of Anthousai and Telluria. “Plus, we will have wreaths and florals for sale.”

Earrings by Ren will be selling during the open house on Dec. 11-12. Bayly Botanicals will be present on Dec. 18-19.

A Holiday Maker’s Market

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., The Studio, 2221 E. Admiral Blvd., is hosting its monthly Maker’s Market, this month featuring the perfect stocking stuffer and gift items for the holidays.

In all, 11 makers will offer a variety of locally-produced items. Markers include Heartland Goods, Courtney Kibby Designs, Cockatoo Creative, Liz Dueck Art, II Embers, Rose and Bull, StaineDaze, Golden Helia, Kristi Holland Designs, Flower Childs Dream and OMOWI Beadwork.

“We have a great variety featuring hand-painted ornaments, jewelry, plants, trinkets, art, decor, and more,” Trout said. “There will be lots of great gift items for your holiday shopping.”

Additionally, there will be sweet treats by Floured and coffee with Parea Coffee Company.

The Studio is a 2,000 square-foot space fit for photography, events, parties and more. They began hosting Maker’s Markets on the second Saturday of the month this summer.

“We started the market because as the new owners of The Studio, we are very passionate about helping out our community,” Trout said. “This is a great way for us to help showcase local goods and give these artists and makers a window to the world to see what they can do and gain a larger following for their business.”

This market supports another 10 makers, including Salt Prairie Ceramics, Beer is OK, Okie Dope Soaps, Blackburn Goods, Brass Cactus, Gas Petal Flower Truck, Krysta Quinn Art, Mollycoddled Hashslinger, Mudd Pony and Septimber Roots.

“Local Makers are what make Tulsa unique,” McIlory said. “It’s our town’s creativity and own personal splash of color.”
