To spark creativity and get into the Halloween spirit, Kendall Whittier businesses decorated pumpkins as part of a Kendall Whittier Main Street contest.

Businesses were provided pumpkins to decorate – carve, paint, affix or etch – however they chose. Decorated pumpkins were then placed on display in the businesses.

Judges reviewed each pumpkin and gave marks on the following categories: originality, creativity, quality of work, visual impact, ingenious use of pumpkin and business personality fit. The winning pumpkin – Best in Show – went to Ziegler Art & Frame. They will receive a free 1/8th page ad in TulsaPeople.

Honorable Mention awards were given to Fab Lab Tulsa (Most Original), Graham Collective (Best Business Fit), Pancho Anaya Bakery (People’s Choice) and Most Topical (918 Coffee). The People’s Choice is voted on through Facebook, with the winner receiving the most “likes.”

Honorable Mention winners will receive a free Friends membership and ‘I Lub K-Dub’ t-shirt. All winners will be announced on Halloween, October 31.

Judges include City Councilor Crista Patrick, TulsaPeople digital editor Tim Landes and John Points, aka the ‘Gourd Guru,’ a Tulsan who has carved more than 500 pumpkins and teaches pumpkin carving classes all over town.

Participating businesses are: 918 Coffee, Cabin Boys Brewery, Circle Cinema, Fab Lab Tulsa, Flash Flood Print Studios, Graham Collective, Jo & June Vintage, Josh New Photography, Lawyers of Kendall Whittier, Marshall Brewing Company, Pancho Anaya Bakery and Ziegler Art & Frame.

Kendall Whittier is a Certified Cultural District.

Edited 10/31, 4 p.m. to reflect winners.
