Blue and yellow fabric adorns 42 light poles in Whittier Square as ‘Kendall Whittier Keeps the Lights On for Ukraine.’

“We wanted to display the Ukrainian flag to show our support for Ukraine as they fight for their freedom. The lights keep the flag shining bright all through the night,” said Jessica Jackson Seay, executive director of Kendall Whittier Main Street. “But we also wanted to do some good for Ukraine, so we paired it with a fundraiser.”

Donation boxes for United Help Ukraine are available at 10 Kendall Whittier businesses, and donations can also be sent to Kendall Whittier Main Street, 2205 E. Admiral Blvd. The fundraiser will be open through the end of the month.

Businesses with donation boxes are Anthousai, Atwood Art Studio, Circle Cinema, Flash Flood Print Studios, Heirloom Rustic Ales, Lawyers of Kendall Whittier, Pancho Anaya Bakery, She Brews Coffee House, Whitty Books and Ziegler Art & Frame.

United Help Ukraine, Inc., is a non-profit charitable organization receiving and distributing donations, food and medical supplies to Ukrainian internally displaced people, people of Ukraine affected by Russia’s invasion, families of wounded or killed for independence of Ukraine. Their activities focus on fundraising events, raising awareness of the crisis in Ukraine by engaging individuals, organizations, private and government institutions and the U.S. media.

The Lights On Ukraine initiative is a partnership between Circle Cinema and Kendall Whittier Main Street. Fabric was donated by Fabricut.

“Ukraine is fighting our war,” said Clark Wiens, Co-founder of Circle Cinema. “Kendall Whittier and Circle Cinema are keeping the lights on for Ukraine. We care.”

Other KW Fundraisers

In addition to Lights On Ukraine, some Kendall Whittier businesses have specific fundraisers. Mythic Press has a “Tulsa-Ukraine In Solidarity” t-shirt for sale, the proceeds of which benefit United Help Ukraine.

The Studio hosted an Open Mic Night on March 20 to benefit the Red Cross in Eastern Ukraine. Donations of $10 at the door were encouraged.
