Each screening will include a special pre-film themed reception, with a Socs’ Social beginning at 12:30pm Sunday September 26 and a Greasers’ Gathering beginning at 5:30pm Wednesday September 26. Tickets for either date are $30 for Circle Cinema Members and $35 general admission. In addition to the film and reception, all tickets also include an exclusive ‘Stay Gold’ branded journal, dedication of a plaque recognizing Circle Cinema as a location in the movie, introduction by Danny Boy O’Connor of The Outsiders House Museum, a short film about the Museum and coupon for half-off Museum admission, and post-film Q&A with special guest librarian Jo Ellen Misakian (live on Sunday September 26, recorded playback Wednesday September 29). Misakian and her students in Fresno CA started a letter-writing campaign to Coppola in 1980 which proved instrumental in his choice to make The Outsiders.
The Outsiders The Complete Novel will also play at The Outsiders House Museum with an outdoor screening on Saturday September 25 with doors at 6pm and screening at sunset. Tickets for this screening are $30 and are available at TheOutsidersHouse.com.
Said Coppola in a release announcing the restoration, “The Outsiders The Complete Novel came about after meeting students over the years who repeatedly asked me why certain scenes from S.E. Hinton’s wonderful book were missing from the theatrical version. These questions reminded about my inspiration for the film—in 1980, a contingent of 12- to 14-year-old students wrote and asked me to make it. I listened to those young fans back then, and I continue to listen to young people now and believe in their opinions, so this complete film version of the novel is for them.”
The new 4K restoration of The Outsiders The Complete Novel is the ultimate version of the film. The Complete Novel expanded cut includes 20 minutes of additional footage with a beginning and ending more in line with the book, a scene shot at Circle Cinema, and a rocking soundtrack. The restoration was made from original camera negatives and overseen by Coppola, resulting in a gorgeous picture that is a must-see for Outsiders fans new and old.
