This event will be held outdoors in the Tipton Community Garden, located off 1st St & Zunis in Tulsa’s Kendall-Whittier Neighborhood. Current volunteers, neighbors, and anyone interested in getting involved with our community garden programming is encouraged to attend along with the general public. Please note, we will be practicing social distancing and masks are encouraged for all, and required for unvaccinated folks.

About KWI:
Kendall Whittier Inc. (KWI) is a local nonprofit that sponsors the Tipton Community Garden. KWI uniquely raises the standard of living in the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood by teaching our clients self-sufficiency, good eating habits and personal responsibility. Through our three community gardens — Tipton Community Garden, GROW Teaching Garden, and Sequoyah Elementary School Garden — participants grow food without the use of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. Picking, smelling and eating fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices right out of the gardens is encouraged and is practiced enthusiastically.

Throughout the year, food is harvested out of the gardens and prepared fresh or cooked in a recipe to explore the possibilities of our crops. In addition to providing fresh, organic produce to our participants, our gardens also offer inspiration, increased neighborhood security, a meeting place for community members, and a source of neighborhood pride. We seek to increase garden participants awareness of where food comes from and how they can contribute to their families’ well-being as well as encourage them to feel the sense of accomplishment and pride that comes from seeing a task through from beginning to end.
