Join Whitty Books for an evening of fun and creativity at Heirloom Rustic Ales, this time with a spooky twist! We’ll bring all of the supplies for you to work on your own blackout poetry; a judge will choose their 3 favorites and ask the writers of the winning three to read them aloud. The first-place winner will receive a $50 gift card for Heirloom Rustic Ales. This time we’ll give extra consideration to scary or macabre poems.
We’ll also have a pop-up with some of our favorite horror and horror-adjacent books and, as always, costumes are encouraged but not required.
How do you make a blackout poem?
It’s simple– grab a page from a book, blackout the words you don’t want to use, repeat as necessary! It is a great way to get past the intimidation of the blank page, try your hand at writing poetry for the first time, or get past a bout of writer’s block.
