Unlike most styles and categories of beer, saison has always had more of a philosophical bend rather than a specific set of rigid instructions and requirements to be considered “correct”. These whimsical ales usually carry the fingerprints of their makers and preserve a certain genetic similarity to the place they came from. They are always dry, bubbly, and estery, but beyond that there is a lot of cerebral and creative space for the maker to explore. Breweries that produce saison often see them as their most sacred language. Some sort of interior wrestling that reaches a spiritual plain and expression through the connection with old processes and methods. One thing has always been the case, these beers were for the people and by the people. Drank by farmhands throughout the seasons and the years.

Hip hop has a similar story. Rooted in revolt and resistance, this wide ranging genre carries the sound of a region and describes the situations and hardships felt in a specific place. It follows no particular meter and is usually celebrated for its unique identity.
